🎯 A Different Kind of Winning Session
When I started this challenge on Red Dragon Poker, almost every session felt frustrating.
I was constantly questioning whether I was approaching these games correctly. The field behaved nothing like the games I was used to, and my standard strategy simply wasn’t producing the results I expected.
Today’s session felt different.
Not because I ran incredibly well—I actually don’t think I did—but because for the first time I felt like I understood what this player pool wants me to do.
The result wasn’t spectacular.
The confidence it gave me might be.
🃏 Two Massive Preflop All-ins… Again
Variance definitely didn’t disappear today.
I got involved in two huge preflop situations:
AK for around 150 big blinds
QQ running into KK for roughly 160 big blinds
Those aren’t exactly the kind of pots that make a session easy.
A few days ago, losing those hands probably would have completely changed the way I played the rest of the session.
Today it didn’t.
I simply kept playing my game.
That’s probably the biggest improvement I’ve made since moving to Red Dragon Poker.
Instead of letting a couple of unfortunate spots dictate my decisions, I stayed patient, continued looking for good situations and managed to finish the day in the green anyway.
Sometimes that’s what progress looks like.
Not avoiding bad beats.
Playing well after they happen.
🧠 Understanding Red Dragon Poker Better Every Day
After seven days, I don’t think I’ve “solved” this poker room.
Not even close.
But I finally feel like I’m adapting instead of fighting against it.
The biggest lesson so far has been understanding that Red Dragon rewards a very different approach than the environments I was grinding before.
Trying to force a standard 100BB strategy into games where stacks regularly become 200, 300 or even 500 big blinds simply isn’t optimal.
Over the last few sessions I’ve become much more comfortable:
entering more speculative multi-way pots,
extracting maximum value with premium hands,
and accepting that preflop variance is simply part of the ecosystem.
There will still be losing sessions.
There will still be ugly coolers.
But I no longer feel like I’m guessing.
Now I feel like I’m learning.
And that’s a huge difference.

🎓 Technical Comment by Marchese del River

What impressed me most about today’s session wasn’t the final result.
It was the emotional adjustment.
Many players experience a couple of large preflop collisions and immediately start changing strategy, forcing action or becoming too passive.
The Professor did neither.
The biggest improvement over the last few days isn’t technical—it’s strategic discipline.
He’s starting to recognise that Red Dragon Poker isn’t about avoiding variance.
It’s about exploiting a player pool that consistently creates profitable situations over the long run.
The sample is still very small, so it’s far too early to draw definitive conclusions.
But the thought process is moving in the right direction.
And that’s far more important than one winning session.
💭 Final Thoughts
Seven days isn’t enough to understand a poker room.
But it’s enough to realise whether you’re improving.
Today wasn’t about running hot.
It wasn’t about winning every showdown.
It was about feeling increasingly comfortable in an environment that looked completely foreign just a few sessions ago.
The bankroll continues to move in the right direction.
Now the real challenge begins.
Can this approach continue to work over tens of thousands of hands?
We’ll find out together.
