$10 Million Bot Farm on WPN? Inside One of Online Poker's Biggest Bot Investigations

Oct 2
6 min read

Updated: Oct 16

$10M WPN bot farm investigation

In January 2024, one of the most serious public bot investigations in modern online poker exploded around the Winning Poker Network. A community investigator using the name TylerRM said a group of suspected automated accounts had generated approximately $10 million in MTT results.

The number was enormous, but it needs to be understood correctly. It was not an official WPN finding, a regulator's conclusion or proof that every account in the database was a bot. It was an independent estimate built from tracked accounts, hand histories, statistical similarities and public tournament results.

What makes the story important is what happened next. WPN began blocking accounts, the investigator continued tracking the network, and by June 2024 he reported that the number of cash-game accounts from the suspected bot farm still active had fallen dramatically.

For players evaluating the network today, this history belongs alongside our ACR Poker review and our broader discussion of why real bot and collusion risks are different from claims that a poker site's RNG is rigged.

Table of Contents

🤖 Where Did the $10 Million WPN Bot-Farm Claim Come From?

The investigation became public on January 3, 2024, when TylerRM posted a large collection of results he attributed to suspected bot accounts on WPN. The material included tournament graphs, cash-game samples and lists of nicknames that he believed shared identifiable strategic patterns.

By January 19, TylerRM wrote that the tracked MTT accounts represented approximately $10 million in total damage, alongside roughly $6 million in generated rake. Those figures came from his own database work and aliases. They should therefore be described as the investigator's estimate rather than an audited network total.

📊 What Did TylerRM Actually Find?

The investigation was not based on one strange hand or one player running unusually well. It attempted to connect large groups of accounts through repeated statistical and strategic similarities across a significant sample.

The central claim was that multiple accounts appeared to follow related automated strategies across both tournaments and cash games. TylerRM continued updating the lists as new hands became available, separating accounts that had stopped playing from accounts that remained active.

Following the patterns in suspected WPN bot accounts

🧩 How Were the Suspected Bots Identified?

Bot detection at this scale is usually about patterns rather than a single smoking gun. Investigators compare frequencies, timing, bet sizing, preflop and postflop decisions, volume, account behavior and similarities between supposedly unrelated players.

TylerRM also shared hand-history databases so other players could examine the samples. That made the investigation unusually transparent by poker-forum standards, but it still did not turn every listed nickname into a formally proven bot. Statistical similarity is evidence to investigate; account-level confirmation ultimately requires the operator's internal data.

💰 Did the Bots Really Win $10 Million?

The safest answer is that approximately $10 million was the public estimate attached to the tracked MTT group in January 2024. It should not be presented as a verified amount seized, refunded or officially confirmed by WPN.

The distinction matters. Public tournament databases can help reconstruct results, but they do not by themselves prove who controlled each account, whether every account used automation for its entire lifetime, or whether all accounts belonged to one organization.

🃏 Which Games Were Affected?

The public investigation covered both MTTs and cash games. Early material highlighted higher-stakes cash activity, while later updates examined lower stakes as well. In May 2024, TylerRM also reported newly identified and previously overlooked MTT accounts, showing that the investigation was continuing rather than ending with the January lists.

This is particularly relevant to ACR because Americas Cardroom is the flagship skin of WPN. Players researching the room should look at the network's tournament liquidity, rewards and software together with its game-integrity history rather than treating any one factor in isolation. Our current ACR review covers the room as it operates in 2026.

🚨 How Did WPN Respond?

The public timeline shows a significant change after the investigation gained attention. By January 19, TylerRM reported that WPN had begun waves of account blocks. Later updates credited WPN Security with acting on reports and removing many of the accounts being tracked.

That does not erase the criticism directed at the network during the early stages of the controversy. It does, however, matter when evaluating the complete story: the investigation did not end with a static list of suspected bots. Enforcement followed, and the tracked population changed substantially.

📉 What Happened After the First Ban Waves?

The most useful later checkpoint came on June 18, 2024. After analysing cash games from May 1 through June 16, TylerRM wrote that only 27 bots from the tracked bot farm were still active, describing that as a major reduction from the hundreds previously observed.

This is why it would be misleading to take the January 2024 headline and present it as a description of WPN in 2026. The original investigation documented a serious historical problem, while the investigator's own later updates described substantial enforcement and a much smaller active group.

Following the patterns in suspected WPN bot accounts

🇺🇸 What Does This Mean for ACR Players?

For US-facing players, WPN remains important because relatively few large international networks accept players from the United States. That makes game integrity especially important: players may have fewer alternatives, while ACR's tournament schedule and guarantees remain a major attraction.

The correct takeaway is not that every strong ACR regular is a bot, and it is not that the historical investigation should be ignored. Strong evidence of coordinated automation deserves scrutiny, while ordinary variance and tough games should not automatically be turned into cheating accusations. We explored that distinction in Are Poker Sites Rigged?.

🔎 What Is Proven and What Is Still Alleged?

Documented in the public investigation

TylerRM published account lists, graphs, hand-history material and recurring updates; he estimated approximately $10 million in MTT damage by January 19, 2024; he later reported WPN ban activity; and on June 18 he said 27 tracked cash-game bot accounts remained active.

What the public record does not establish by itself

The public evidence does not independently prove that every listed account was automated, that every account belonged to one operator, that exactly $10 million was illicitly won, or that the same account population and scale of activity still exist in 2026.

That separation between documented evidence and unresolved claims is the same standard we apply when covering current security stories, including the GGPoker, ACR and CoinPoker malware cheating investigation.

🛡️ What Should Online Poker Players Learn From This?

The WPN investigation shows why poker security cannot rely on one signal. Large-scale bot detection requires hand histories, behavioral fingerprints, operator-side information and continued monitoring after bans.

Players should keep their own records, report suspicious patterns with evidence, avoid turning every unusual decision into an accusation, and pay attention to how quickly a room responds when credible data is presented. Security is not a one-time certification. It is an ongoing process.

🏁 Final Thoughts

The '$10 million WPN bot farm' headline is dramatic, but the underlying story is more useful than the headline itself. A community investigation assembled enough evidence to force sustained attention onto suspected automated play. The investigator estimated enormous historical MTT results, WPN later blocked accounts, and subsequent tracking showed a sharp reduction in the suspected population.

For players in 2026, the right way to use this history is neither to dismiss it nor to pretend nothing changed after January 2024. It is a case study in how bots can scale, how independent database work can expose patterns, and why transparent enforcement matters for every online poker network.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

$10 million was TylerRM's estimate for the tracked MTT accounts by January 19, 2024. It was not an official WPN audit or a regulator-confirmed loss figure.

The public investigation reported waves of account blocks beginning in January 2024. By June, TylerRM said the number of tracked cash-game bots still active had fallen dramatically.

No. The public data showed patterns that the investigator considered consistent with a bot farm, but the public record alone cannot independently prove automation for every listed account.

Yes. Americas Cardroom is a flagship skin of the Winning Poker Network, so WPN-wide game-integrity issues are directly relevant to ACR players.

The historical investigation does not establish that the same accounts or the same scale of activity remain active in 2026. Later 2024 updates already reported a substantial reduction.

Document hands and recurring patterns, keep hand histories where available, and report evidence to the poker room. A strange hand or a tough opponent by itself is not proof of automation.
